About our Board.

  • Ana Michelle Rothhammer-Ruiz, MS, RN, FNP-C

Ana’s root began in Oakland, California as a daughter of a Mexican immigrant mother and hard working Oakland Unified School district teacher. Ana was always exposed to her Mexican community and the drive to serve her community started early on. She volunteered at health fairs as a youth and discovered the nursing profession. A registered nurse for almost a decade, she obtained her nursing degree from Samuel Merritt University. She began her nursing journey as an ER nurse at a busy level 1 trauma center in Delaware. While she was working as an ER nurse, she continued to desire to do more to directly help her community. She became involved with the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) Philadelphia chapter and became part of the leadership team. She also volunteered at a volunteer driven community clinic serving Philadelphia’s Spanish speaking immigrant population. Despite a successful nursing career in direct patient care, Ana often wondered how she could make a greater impact on her profession. Ana decided to return back to school to pursue advance practice. She recently obtained her Master’s degree from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). During her time at UCSF, she was president of Voces Latinas, a student organization focused on supporting Latinx students and serving the surrounding Latinx community. She currently works as a family nurse practitioner at a California rural health clinic serving immigrant and migrant families. While Ana is making an impact on individuals in rural health, she aspires to make broader positive changes for entire populations with a focus on policy and community level work.
