About Sandra Diaz 

Nursing instructor Sandra Diaz, who passed away of COVID-19 complications on January 29, 2021, was a vital member of the De Anza College community – first as a student, and later as a faculty member, colleague and friend. 

Join us! Registered Nurses will share their academic and career journey as a way to inspire and motivate our De Anza students towards a career in the healthcare industry.  These panelists will share their journey, challenges and celebrations and their current role in the frontlines of this post pandemic phase.

Our Panelists

Silvinita Rowe 

[No Picture provided] “Nita” is an adjunct Faculty Instructor at De Anza Colleges. She loves to align the vision of her worksites to her decision making. She is also committed to patient safety and safe nursing practice in collaboration with multidisciplinary leaders at the local and regional levels. And sees herself as an advocate for the use of technology as an adjunct to enhance nursing practice and safety and drive improvement. She encourages and supports staff’s professional growth and development through education or clinical ladder. She believes in building multidisciplinary professional relationships through trust, active listening, open and honest communication, integrity, and compassion. Her professional affiliations include Association of periOperative Room Nurses and Association of Nurse Leaders. She graduated from CSU Fresno as part of a Consortium with San Jose State University. 

Eliana Lopez 

Eliana is a Mexican American and proud bilingual nurse. Nursing is actually her second career. She was previously in hospitality for ten years, enjoying taking her customers through the dining experience of food and beverage. She chose nursing when one of her colleagues mentioned she would prosper in healthcare given her passion for customer service and compassion. She did her pre-reqs at Foothill College, obtaining an AA in Kinesiology and BSN at CSUEB Fall 2020. She passed the NCLEX in April 2021 and started the Stanford New Grad Residency Program in June 2021. She graduated from the residency program in June 2022 and she specializes in telemetry/medicine unit for almost 2 years.  

Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Aquino  

Liz is a proven nurse leader at the local, state, and national level, with over a decade in academia, including administration, she brings a wealth of knowledge, strong leadership experience, and innovative ideas to support a thriving environment for nursing students, faculty, and staff. Through her service on various boards she has helped elevate the nursing voice, advance the nursing profession, and impact health care in numerous ways. Dr. Aquino is currently the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Nursing.
